The Roman and the Greeks chose to build their cities along the relatively cool Mediterranean coast and this means that today their ruins, now UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are all readily accessible through one day excursions from coastal cities. This affords the options of visiting these cities and driving to the nearby ruins.
